Downy mildew is caused by water mold pathogens that thrive in cool, humid conditions with poor air circulation. Prolonged leaf wetness from rain, overhead watering, or heavy dew encourages infection.
Remove and dispose of infected leaves immediately. Improve air circulation by spacing plants properly and avoid overhead watering. Apply approved fungicides or organic copper-based sprays if the disease spreads.
Plant with adequate spacing, water at the base of the plant in the morning, avoid wetting the foliage, improve airflow, and remove plant debris after harvest. Choose resistant varieties whenever possible.
